An interesting prototype is currently up for sale on eBay: a MacBook Pro 3G. It’s a MacBook Pro 3,1 (15-inch Santa Rosa) equipped with an internal 3G card and, surprisingly, an antenna integrated directly into the screen casing. This is a prototype, firstly because such a machine was never released, and secondly because it features a red motherboard. The integration appears to be very well done, indicating that Apple had been considering this type of machine for several years; it is a 2007 model (I had the same MacBook Pro). It’s worth noting that Mac OS X has integrated drivers and effective 3G management for quite some time, as I had discussed earlier here.
