I had already discussed this previously, but it’s interesting to revisit: Apple apparently tested MacBook Pro 3G models in the 2007/2008 lineup, and remnants of this integration are still present in commercial machines.
In 2011, a prototype was unveiled: a MacBook Pro Santa Rosa (2007) equipped with a 3G antenna in the screen frame.
What’s interesting is that one of the connectors for the 3G part and the integration of the SIM card slot is indeed present in the commercial version of the machine; you can clearly see the traces of the connector in the Anandtech photo (to the right of the left fan).
So, Apple considered integrating 3G into the machine for a while, but this integration never materialized. It can be assumed that, unlike my integration, Wi-Fi remains available…
