Seen on eBay (if you have $5,000…) an Apple Multiserver. It’s an « Apple » network storage enclosure, a project initiated in the ’80s but never released.
The Delphi project (alias Oracle in the Apple presentation) was canceled in 1986, but a few devices occasionally pop up on eBay.
Originally, they were 3COM enclosures containing an Intel 80188, 1 MB of RAM, and a 70 MB SCSI hard drive. The device could share printers, a connection, or files via Ethernet (coaxial, supposedly 10 megabits/s), LocalTalk, or even through a modem. The enclosure had several SCSI ports, and a backup enclosure with tape backup was also part of it.
It was never released, but some sources indicate that prototypes were used within Apple.
Along with the two enclosures, there is also documentation on the project. The 3COM enclosure had the code name « Mr. Coffee, » a sharing software for the Mac Plus, code name « New York, » and a UNIX-based enclosure was named « Ventura. »
