A prototype of an iMac in an Apple advertisement

Krazy Ken, from the channel Computer Clan, found something amusing in the 2000s’ « Get A Mac » ads: a prototype iMac.

Yes, it seems a bit surprising… but it’s true. In the first commercials, the final image shows a white, classic Intel iMac.

In the following ads, there is a standard aluminum iMac.

An aluminum iMac

And in between, in three commercials (Boxer, Podium, and PR Lady), the iMac looks… strange. It’s an aluminum iMac (2007), but with a grey Apple logo. A kind of hybrid between the white iMac (with a grey logo) and the aluminum iMac (with a black logo).

Well, one might think it’s an error or that the iMac isn’t a real model. But Ken had the chance to see Henry Plain’s collection (I’ve already mentioned this collector, his website is here) and… he has an aluminum iMac with the grey logo, just like in the ads.

The same at Henry Plain’s

The conclusion? Apple probably used a prototype in the commercial.
