You occasionally see them on eBay (but I don’t post every time): a Set Top Box from the 90s, the ancestor of the Apple TV.
This box was intended for operators in the mid-90s, long before the Triple Play trend. It was based on the Macs of that time (it’s a 68040 without an FPU) with an internal MPEG1 decompression card. The connectivity is closer to that of a PowerBook, including SCSI with HDI30. The device was supposed to output the image in RGB (there are SCART connections), composite, or S-Video, and it even has ADB and serial ports. The remote control doesn’t seem to be included here. While there’s an RJ45 port, be aware it’s not Ethernet but a connection for E1/T1 (an older type of digital connection). One day, I’ll present this machine to you, but first, I need to find one at a reasonable price… (not $500 or $700 without taxes, that is).
