In 2015, at the launch of the Apple TV (which Apple still sells under the name Apple TV HD), the brand offered something a bit unusual: a Developer Kit for €1. It was a standard box, with a standard remote… but released before it was available to regular customers.
I got hold of a kit, which includes the Apple TV, the remote, a Lightning cable for charging, and something that wasn’t in the regular version’s box: a USB (A) to USB-C cable to restore the Apple TV. Essentially, it comes in a slightly different box with nice messages. The Apple TV in question wasn’t used much: the OS was still the original version at launch, which was tvOS 9.0. On a related note, the remote’s battery was, of course, dead, and Siri wasn’t activated. When I switched the OS to French, I couldn’t activate the assistant. Technically, since it’s a standard box, I can obviously update to tvOS 14 (and probably 15 when it comes out).
