Two prototypes of Pippin controllers

From time to time, I order a Pippin console from Japan. Not to own another one nor out of fetishism (I already have several too many) but because I noticed something unusual that seemed interesting.

In the photo of this listing, I saw a black wireless controller and a second somewhat atypical controller.

The photo that caught my attention

Upon receipt, bingo. Two rare controllers.

A Wireless @World Controller

The black controller has no cable for a good reason: it’s a wireless version. I’m not exactly sure if it’s a prototype or a (very) rare model, but it’s the first one I’ve seen. Physically, it’s identical to the AtMark version, with the same infrared LEDs, the four batteries in the handles, etc. It works perfectly with a standard receiver and bears the @World branding. However, I don’t have its receiver.

A Prototype Controller

The second controller will fit perfectly with my prototype console. It’s an unbranded controller (no name under the trackball, no engraved logo) with a few small differences. In addition to the absence of branding, the trackball’s ball is darker than on standard controllers, and the buttons underneath are larger, protruding more prominently. The controller works perfectly on a standard console.
