Seen on a forum, a pre-production StarMax (rather than a prototype). The author of the post explains that it was provided by someone who said it was a prototype.
Physically, it’s still (very) similar to a commercial StarMax. It’s worth noting that the front face indicates StarMax 4000/160 (meaning a 160 MHz PowerPC 604 CPU), while the CPU itself is a 200 MHz model. On the back, a few labels (FCC, etc.) are missing, and you can also see that the video output is in DE-15 rather than DA-15, though the case has been cut to fit the Apple connector. The interior photo doesn’t show anything special: no removable ROM, no 34-pin floppy drive, etc.
