A surprising (and not very portable) iPod touch prototype

Seen on YouTube, a first-generation iPod touch prototype.

It’s a (large) board that is literally the iPod touch motherboard, with connectors to help debug potential issues. In the video, we learn that it only boots in DFU mode, mainly because the storage is missing. Also, the CPU dates back significantly before the device’s release.

The board

It’s just a screen

Two dock connectors

Analog video outputs

A mini USB port, quite uncommon

Here, there should be slots with NAND storage

Under the screen

In the middle, there’s the CPU and probably traces for NAND storage.
