A few weeks ago, I talked about two Pippin prototypes sold by a former Apple employee. Unfortunately, the sale did not go well. More specifically, the most interesting prototype was literally destroyed by U.S. customs.
The model, sold for over €2,500, based on a Power Macintosh 6100, was indeed destroyed. We have some images and a bit of context in this video, but the images come from the buyer’s Twitter account.
He apparently bought both consoles, and according to the video, the seller had underdeclared the value of the consoles (probably to avoid fees), which led U.S. customs to open the consoles. And since there is no iFixit tutorial, it did not go well. I don’t know the full story, but it’s obviously sad to see a piece of history in this condition.
