Seen on a cool blog, a prototype of the Macintosh Portable.
This is a DVT model of the very first Macintosh Portable. There are indeed two generations of the Macintosh Portable: one with a non-backlit screen and one with it. Aside from this (very) practical difference, there are some hardware changes. This particular Macintosh Portable runs a beta version of the OS from that time, System 6.0.6b12. In the article, you can see that the machine contained a card with 1 MB of RAM (a somewhat special expansion card), and it was replaced with a modern card containing 7 MB of RAM, totaling 8 MB (the capacity varies depending on the type of Macintosh Portable). There’s even a version that allows up to 9 MB.
