A transparent mouse prototype

Seen at RR Auction, a prototype Macintosh mouse. It is transparent and (most importantly) sold for over $14,600.

Apparently, only about twenty of these mice were made. It uses a DE-9 connector, but contrary to what one might think, it is not a serial (RS-232) connection—the protocol used at the time was much simpler.

The connector is straight rather than angled, as seen on some prototypes.
