Seen in a movie, Hackers, a prototype PowerBook Duo. It’s a transparent model, used by Jonny Lee Miller.
The second fun detail is a conversation between Angelina Jolie and Jonny Lee Miller: she explains that the hero’s PowerBook Duo (a different one) is equipped with a P6 chip, three times faster than a Pentium. He adds that the machine has a PCI architecture, before diving into a short exchange about RISC.
First, it’s not a PowerBook with a RISC chip: it’s a 68K-based model (it has a trackball), and the PowerBook Duo 2300c, which was essentially an update, only came out a few days before the movie’s release — meaning the one in the film is most likely not a PowerPC. Finally, the PowerBook Duo 2300c did not have a PCI-based architecture.
(Him) Has a killer refresh rate.
(Her) P6 chip. Triple the speed of the Pentium.
(Him) Yeah. It’s not just the chip. It has a PCI bus, but you knew that.
(Her) Indeed. RISC architecture’s going to change everything.
(Him) Yeah. RISC is good.
